About Australia India Society Of Victoria

Established in 1963, the AISV is the oldest, integrated, non-sectarian Indian organisation in Australia.

Since its inception our organisation has been committed to supporting new migrants and advancing the needs of established Indian Australians. Our ongoing mission is to support the hopes and aspirations of newly arrived Indians in Australia, as well as promote axctive participation in and contribution to a just and multicultural society.

Our membership includes a wide range of individuals from all walks of life and places of origin.

What We Can Do For You

Memberships to the Society offers individuals an opportunity to stay connected to their culture and heritage and have access to important social support resources.
These are just some of the benefits for our members:
  • Promote a two-way process of cultural understandingand friendship between the Indian and mainstream Australian community.
  • Provide support and assistance to newly arrived Indian migrants.
  • Lobby and provide representation to Federal, State and Local government bodies on migrant issues, particularly those related to Indian Australians.
  • Providenetworking and mentoring opportunities for new arrivals with established Indian to help make the transition into their environment successful.
  • Organise fundraising activities to support individuals and families in difficult circumstances and to those who are unable to access mainstream social services.
  • Offer social activities, special events and cultural entertainment to promote opportunities for friendship and fun, for example, free entry to monthly musical evenings (Mehfil Nights).
  • Promote Indian culture and heritage through the arts to foster a better cultural understanding amongst non-Indian Australians and second generation Indians.
  • Provide members with a regular newsletter to keep up to date with news from both India and Australia.
